About Me

Hello! My name is Amandaleeanne Schock and I am a recent Bachelors new grad from the Lake Washington institute of technology. I majored in Software Engineering and Developement but have gone through quite the journey of discovery within this field. I still have yet to know where I am to land within this vast sea, but my current goals are to explore Security/Cybersecurity with a keen interest in operating systems. No matter were I go, as long as I can program I will be very happy.

Why did you choose Computer Science?

Short answer: Money.

Long answer: I really do enjoy the puzzle aspect of computer programming. I have a very good eye for patterns, which makes learning something as structured as programming very easy. That being said, I am also highly creative, which programming lends itself to complex problem solving and creativity that the human mind is so good at.

I remember as a kid getting started on the Kahn academy Javascript course because "oh! dad is a database enginneer I wonder if this is what he does!" It was not, but child brains are like that; finding the website Scratch, and enjoying/feeling proud of my first game. Then as I grew older and more mature, finding creative way to tweak and solve the problems I had with my PC, or just enjoying how structured and beatiful programming+math is.

All of that being said, I'll admit, because I have so many interests and tend to be very busy, I end up not doing too many "personal projects" like most breakout programmers. Or, the project I do want to do are left unfinished because of more important career and school things. However, my knowlege and a bility to learn is vast and I bet you will end up being pleasently surprised at my skills.

What are your favorite languages?

I really enjoyed the flexibility of working in C. With languages nowadays, they are so hand holdy and abstracted that they don't let you make mistakes. For some, this is okay, but with that level of abstraction comes limitations to a language that ends up creating too complex of tech stacks (looking at you Javascript/React and Java).

For object oriented languages, I quite enjoy Python. It has its own quirks, but does what it is meant to do extremely well.

Who are you outside of Classes and Programming?

A nerd, and someone who very much enjoys the company of her friends. I also quite enjoy hiking the wonderful Washington "wild west." Something about this state you simply can't find anywhere else and in the spring/early summer finding nifty and cool places to explore is very fun. You can find more in the hobbies section!
